Erika Riobo-Gomez

Erika Riobo-Gomez is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the Universidad Iberoamericana, both in Bogota, Colombia.

Erika was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. In 2009, she moved with her husband to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she obtained a Master’s in Community Counseling in 2012.  Here, Erika found her passion, focusing on the well-being and mental health of the Hispanic community in Milwaukee.

Erika has over 13 years of experience providing psychotherapy to monolingual and bilingual individuals, couples, and groups in Milwaukee. She has worked in various mental health settings, including non-profits and private practices. Erika specializes in working with trauma survivors of the Latinx Community, particularly those who have experienced sexual trauma and intimate partner violence. She also helps clients process the impact of different types of trauma, including complex trauma and traumatic grief.

Erika became certified in Brainspotting in 2019, a Level 2-Clinical Trauma Professional in 2019, and most recently, in 2023, completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship to work with couples. She was an active Board Member of the Midwest Brainspotting Institute (MBI) from January 2021 to February 2024. In her work with clients, Erika integrates eclectic, bottom-up, and compassion-focused approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting (BSP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Apart from her professional certifications, Erika has also developed culturally competent, trauma-informed curriculums and workshops addressing the mental and emotional health of the community. In the last two years, she expanded her services to include Latinx couples in response to the growing demand and limited Spanish-speaking therapists in the area.

Erika is inspired daily by her husband, daughter, family who live in Colombia, friends and the Latinx community in the world. She likes to read, watch movies and sports, and play with her daughter in her free time.
